Task 3 - Game Defect Triggers

Trigger and location
What causes the trigger?
Examples
Configuration Trigger
Located in Pre-Game (type version, model, environment).
Configuration Triggers are caused by several variables. Running a game on the incorrect type of platform. Using the incorrect version of the operating system. Disconnecting an external device from the system whilst game is running. Trying to play a region locked game will trigger this too.
A PS3 game won't run on the Xbox 360. A game system requirements state can’t run on Windows XP and its put into a PC running on Windows XP. Controller disconnecting from a console during gameplay. Running a Japanese model of a game on an English PS4.
Start-up Trigger
Located in Start Game (set-up, loading, entry).
Start-up Triggers are caused by issues involve loading of the game and the transition of game files like feedback (sound, music) or graphics are being loaded.
When you first boot up a game the initial loading screen will take longer than anticipated or it won’t load at all.
Exception Trigger
Located in all regions of the Game. (violation, prevention, unexpected, unavailable, error, blocked)
Exception Triggers are issues caused when the player violates something in the game, this causes the game to block the users input choices. This trigger can be internal or external.
When a player tries to play an online multilayer game but prevented as they aren't connected to the Internet, including error message saying “Error: no connection to the Internet”. As for Internal, a player trying to use an unavailable user-name in an MMO.
Stress Trigger
Located In-Game. (speed, capacity, rate, load, limit)
Stress Triggers are issues suggested by its name. The hardware or software has filled its capacity and going over its limitation. Signs of this trigger are seen involving the games load speed and frame rate. Other issues involve delaying of game sound.
For example, a player chooses to install and run Unknown Player Battlegrounds (2017, Bluehole Studio Inc.) on a less than standard PC. The stress on the systems hardware could overheat and shut down the PC. Therefore, games have a system minimum and recommended information before a player downloads it. Another problem is the system does not have enough memory to run it.
Normal Trigger
Located In-Game. (expected, typical, planned)
Normal Triggers are issues that are expected and generally found in a game. Its typically found and noticeable in gameplay.
For example, a game running on the wrong resolution result in the appearance of stretched graphics. The player running game below minimum system requirements resulting in poor quality and contributing to a stress trigger.
Restart Trigger
Located In-Game and Post-Game. (eject, reset, power down, quit)
Restart Triggers are issues involved by quitting the game prematurely like ejecting the disk or incorrectly powering down the console or PC by switch while game is running. Another issue is caused by loss of Internet   connection for online games like MMORPG’s which result in the game restarting.
A famous example in the Nintendo community is in several Pokémon titles. After a player has beaten the Elite Four and Champion the ending credits start. The player has the option to save but if they quit the progress will be lost and they player must restart where they left off.
